This 'Avant' ATS180 is the entry level model ideally suited to beginners. You may wish to upgrade earlier but it is certainly good enough to carry you comfortably through your first few years playing.
The inclusion of a genuine Rousseau ebonite (hard rubber) mouthpiece is a huge bonus! Most student saxes are supplied with the least expensive plastic mouthpiece that soon needs upgrading. The Rousseau mouthpiece will assist you through the more awkward beginning stages and take you and your playing onto a higher level.
Should you start on tenor? A tenor is just a bigger alto with a lower tonal range so most adults can start on tenor as easily as a child can on alto.
